A Promise to Forever

In 2011, Orolf and Kitkat just had a bit of a meet cute, but a memorable one nonetheless, just outside Kitkat’s home. There used to be a sari-sari store with a bamboo chair or lantay, as what people used to call it, made available for customers to sit on. Orolf, was a regular there. It used to be his tambayan. One day, Kitkat was buying something from the store. During that time, she was wearing a baller which says “I am God”. Since it was a trend and so it happened that, when Kitkat was about to get her purchased items from the sari sari store, a random guy grabbed her right hand, took a closer look on her baller and said, “byuha ani oi.” She immediately pulled her hand instinctively and said, “Ha? Ngano ka?… Unknowingly, that guy was Orolf.

She didn’t immediately know it was him. She only known that it was him when Orolf shared that particular encounter he had of her. And that’s something that she now considers as a memorable meet cute in comparison to how I felt when it happened – when Orolf was just a stranger to her back then.

In December of that same year, on the day her grandmother died, just four days before new year, Orolf once again saw her standing on their porch, just below the light bulb. He was standing outside her house, drinking a bottle of Gatorade, when he saw Kitkat glowing like there were fireflies surrounding her. That was his description, “Nakakita ko ni Kitkat, nagtindog ka nahayagan sa suga. Gabuto buto akoang heart unya murag naay daghan aninipot galupadlupad. Niingon ko sa akoang kaugalingon, gwapaha mani bataa ni. Unta Lord, mauyab nako siya.”

Indeed, we can say that what we have now, is a work of God. Remembering the exact words written on the baller that Kitkat wore, in which Orolf said was nice, “I am God”. Meaning to say, that encounter was a clear manifestation of how faithful God is to the both of them. He works in ways, we can’t see and He makes way for people to meet and things to happen.

And here they are, 11 years after that meet-cute, living, loving, and laughing together. A decade and more of sharing bittersweet memories with highest of highs and lowest of lows.

In September 25, 2022, they officially got engaged and have decided to take on the road to forever, together.

Since 2012 until now, still, their hearts are theirs, in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end.

OK, always and forever.
